Jana Holsanova published a book chapter on “Reception of multimodality: Applying eye-tracking methodology in multimodal research” in The Routledge Handbook of Multimodal Analysis (second edition), edited by Carey Jewitt,
The chapter presents a new perspective and emphasizes how complex messages are perceived by the users. The author gives an overview of different ways in which eye-tracking methodology can be used in research on multimodality. Various application areas associated with the use of eye-tracking methodology are summarized. Potentials and limitations of this methodology are listed. The chapter provides examples from eye-tracking studies focusing on the integration of various modes.
