Image description for accessibility - guidelines, research and practices
Image description is the most important method for making images available for people with visual impairment and blindness. What challenges and problems arise when creating image descriptions? How do we create image descriptions that are short and easy to read, provide understanding and do not burden the reader cognitively? The report examines practices for image description in Sweden and reviews the existing national and international guidelines for image description. This inventory results in a number of suggestions for improvements, development efforts, new research projects and studies focusing on both the production of image descriptions and on the use of image descriptions by the end users.
